Body Links to Better Golf!
Body Links to Better Golf is an integrated approach were a licensed physical
therapist works in collaboration with a PGA instructor. It is both a preventative
approach as well as a therapeutic approach for those who are compromising
their enjoyment of the game secondary to pain and poor performance.
When golfers think about how to improve their game they often consider
just taking a lesson or purchasing new equipment. But most over-look the
most important piece of equipment that they already have: their body.
By addressing physical restrictions in posture,
balance, strength, and flexibility, golfers are able to play their best
with minimal potential for injury. Body Links to Better Golf evaluates
how your physical characteristics influence the way you move in addition
to providing the highest quality of PGA instruction. This program is equally
valuable for the competitive golfer looking for an extra edge to improve
their performance as well as the senior golfer who may have lost some
crucial flexibility.
The Body Links to Better Golf program, originally designed Keith Geissler,
MPT, is a culmination of leading resources in the “golf fitness”
industry. Using his skills in biomechanical assessment, Keith can develop
an individualized program that will be golf specific. The program is based
on the following principle:
STRUCTURE GOVERNS FUNCTION
Where biomechanical STRUCTURE influences FUNCTIONAL outcomes
> Posture
can influence a reproducible swing
>Balance
can influence driving distance
>Strength
helps lower scores
>Flexibility
helps to produce greater accuracy
>Control
helps to reduce injuries
But this information alone does not provide a complete performance enhancement
and injury prevention program for the golfer. By collaborating with Jill
Terrone, a PGA instructor who has taught around the world, they have created
the ideal package for any level of golfer.
Body Links to Better Golf utilizes a combined video analysis
and a detailed biomechanical assessment. This allows the team to identify
risk areas and effectively communicate them directly to the player. Each
participant will work one-on-one with both the physical therapist and
the PGA instructor to identify and release physical restrictions. They
will learn corrective drills to reeducate their bodies on proper movement
and they will leave with the tools needed for further development. Not
only will each participant exit the program with an individualized program
from both disciplines, but they will have a comprehensive understanding
of how their body works and how they can make changes to improve their
golf game.
