Running Form for Every Body
Your running form will determine your efficiency and how much you enjoy
the sport.
For maximum efficiency your posture is very important. Think of a balloon
attached to your head pulling your body straight up. At the same time,
keep your shoulders from rounding forwards, but do not over-correct by
poking your chest out. It will be easier to maintain this posture if you
look ahead while running, rather than looking at your feet.
Look up, look at the scenery... look where you're going, you're alot less
likely to trip that way!
For arm placement, elbows at a right angle at your side, gently swinging
while running is actually very normal. This is true especially when your
hands are fisted, but not clenched, palms facing your body and thumbs
upwards. Imagining that you are holding an egg in each hand usually works
to mimic this position. Keeping your elbows at your side will decrease
air drag and allow you to move more efficiently.
