The Foundation to Fun: Running Shoes!

Okay, now you know about form, pacing, stretching and the like, but how do you choose the right shoe?

First you should know your foot type. Do you have a low arch/flat foot or a medium arch or a high arch? When you have flat feet you are better suited to look for a shoe that has motion control and maximum stability.

On the other hand if your arches are high a cushioned shoe is more appropriate for you. If you fall in the middle with medium arches, a shoe with cushion and moderate stability is best for you.

By shopping in a reputable shoe store the sales clerks should be able to provide you with most appropriate shoe. There are also great running shoe catalogues with knowledgeable customer service representatives.

It is also important to keep in mind the width of you foot because most shoe brands come in narrow, medium or wide widths.

Everyone should buy their shoes 1/2 size larger to keep the ends of your toes from jamming into the end of your shoes while running.

And remember... don't buy for fashion, or the look of the shoe. Buy for your foot type and size. Your feet will thank you!  You want fashion?  Running clothing is hitting new heights in fashion with the introduction of colorful and functional synthetic fabrics designed to keep you cooler in heat... and warmer in the cool weather.  Care about the color of your running shirt... but not what's on your feet.

Now that you are armed with arsenals of information to begin your new fitness regime, please remember—have fun!!!! Running can be an enjoyable part of your day, especially if done keeping your body safe. Good luck!
